Call for Postdoctoral Research Fellows

The Harvard University DRCLAS Brazil Office (Associação David Rockefeller Center da Universidade de Harvard), in partnership with the Graduate Program in Public Administration and Government of the São Paulo School of Business Administration, Getulio Vargas Foundation (CDAPG/FGV EAESP), is pleased to invite applications for two postdoctoral fellowship positions.

The postdoctoral research fellows will conduct research on various aspects of COVID-19. Research activities will include literature review, data linkage, assembly and analysis of microdata, statistical analysis, writing manuscripts. The fellowship program will last for 12 months. Extension for an additional 12-month period is possible upon available funding and satisfactory performance. Benefits include a monthly scholarship of R$7373,10. Fellows will be co-mentored by a Harvard faculty and a FGV faculty. The scholarship will be paid directly by the Associação David Rockefeller Center da Universidade de Harvard and selected postdocs will earn an official affiliate status at the CDAPG/FGV.

The successful applicants will work on administrative microdata on hospitalization, birth, and death records, on survey data (PNAD, POF, and others), and will directly collaborate with a research team with expertise on econometrics and causal inference techniques as well as on big data processing tools.

Candidates must have:

  1. A PhD degree in Economics, Epidemiology, Demography, Public Administration, Public Health, or related fields.
  2. Experience in handling and processing survey and/or administrative microdata in R, Stata, Python or other programming languages.
  3. Strong background in quantitative methods (statistical methods, generalized linear models, and econometric analysis).
  4. Proficiency in English (writing and speaking).
  5. Candidates must be based in Brazil.

Additional qualifications not necessary but welcomed:

  1. GIS and spatial analysis
  2. Mathematical modeling

  2. Two academic referees (name, affiliation, and institutional e-mail).
  3. Writing sample (in English, max 1,500 words) about previous experience in academic research (could be a published manuscript).

Selected candidates will be asked to submit a research project to the CDAPG for final approval in the postdoc program. Applications are now open and will close on February 26, 2021.
